Dan England

Ultrarunning & 14ers Coach

If you’re looking to run like the wind,
well, you’ve come to the wrong place.

As an ultramarathon coach, my goal is to help you finish the longest race or climb the highest mountain you’ve ever done in your life. That could be a 50K, a 50-miler or even a 100-miler. I can even help you if you want to do “just” a marathon or a half-marathon, and if you want to climb the 14ers, you’ve found the right guy. If you’re looking to run a 5K in 17 minutes, I’m not the coach for you. But if you want to run far — if you want to run (and walk) like a gentle breeze to the end — you’ve at the right place. I’m someone who can help experienced ultrarunners finish a race they didn’t think was possible or a first-timer who’s always wanted to try trail running. I can help someone who’s climbed the “easier” 14ers reach the top of the more difficult ones. I can be a gentle parent, a strict motivator or someone who helps nudge you across the finish line, even if it’s in last place. I have finished last myself. But I’ve finished. Usually.

Let’s get started.

My Credentials

  • Finisher of more than 20 ultramarathons, including three 100Ks and five 50-milers.

  • I have also DNFd six ultras, including both my 100-mile attempts. I have learned a lot from my mistakes and will help you learn a lot too.

  • Finisher of more than a dozen marathons and more than 50 half marathons.

  • Outdoor writer for publications such as Colorado Sun and the co-author of “Reborn on the Run” with Catra Corbett, one of the most successful ultrarunners of all time.

  • I have climbed more than 200 mountains, including all the Colorado 14ers, and nearly all peaks in Rocky Mountain National Park.

  • Certified by the United Endurance Sports Coaching Academy through a rigorous course that taught me how to specifically coach ultrarunners. An ultramarathon is not the same as running for a few hours through a city on pavement. You should be coached by someone who understands our unique and beautiful sport, as well as those brave enough to try it.

My Specialties

  • Coaching first-time ultramarathoners — My goal is to take the fear factor OUT of ultramarathons. MANY people are capable of finishing an ultra, even if you’ve never finished a marathon or considered yourself a regular runner. I’ll push you and tell you what you need to hear, but I’ll also empathize with your struggles because I’ve been there myself. You’ll learn how to train, how to eat and drink and how to saunter your way to the end. You’ll learn how to develop mental toughness. You’ll also learn how to have fun in the wilderness while being safe and (mostly) responsible.

  • Coaching experienced runners to a new distance — Making the jump to a marathon a 100K or even 100 miles can seem intimidating, even scary. That’s why I’m here. If you’re ready to put in the work — and it may not be as much as you think — I’m here to help.

  • Turning hikers into 14ers climbers — I have more than 100 14ers summits in my pocket. I have guided many people to the top of them. I can help you train, tell you what to bring and plot a route for any 14er you want to do, even the tough ones.
